Lucid Dream Control: Mechanisms, Challenges and Future Directions.

Bonamino C, Peters E.

Journal of sleep research 11 sept. 2026Revue de la littérature

During lucid dreaming, individuals are aware that they are dreaming and may, in some cases, be able to influence dream content. The effectiveness of both clinical and non-clinical applications of lucid dreaming likely depends not only on achieving lucidity but also on the ability to exert control over the dream. However, lucidity does not always translate into control, and many lucid dreamers struggle to intentionally influence their lucid dreams.

Association between sleep paralysis and anxiety: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Garrido G, Donato K, Gonzalez JV, Brito GNE, Romeo B, Machado V, Guimarães Lopes L, Salles C.

Journal of clinical sleep medicine : JCSM : official publication of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine 10 sept. 2026Revue de la littérature

Purpose Sleep paralysis is a REM-sleep parasomnia which manifests as a temporary inability to perform voluntary muscle movements during the sleep-wake transition. Anxiety disorders are characterized by excessive fear, anxiety, and related behavioral disturbances. Notably, lifetime prevalence of sleep paralysis is elevated among psychiatric populations. The purpose of this review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the association between sleep paralysis and anxiety, encompassing both anxiety symptoms and formally diagnosed anxiety disorders.

Reactivating a Relaxation Exercise During Sleep to Influence Cortical Hyperarousal in Individuals With Frequent Nightmares.

Sayk C, Probst A, Lange F, Eickemeier S, Amores J, Ngo HV, Ehsanifard M, Junghanns K, Wilhelm I.

Journal of sleep research 9 sept. 2026

High-frequency EEG activity during sleep, reflecting cortical hyperarousal, has recently been incorporated into aetiology models of nightmares. However, its precise role remains insufficiently understood because experimental approaches to manipulate hyperarousal during sleep are limited. In the present study, we investigated whether re-presenting a relaxation-associated odour cue during sleep to reactivate a previously practiced deep-breathing relaxation exercise reduces cortical hyperarousal as indexed by beta (16.25-31 Hz) and gamma (31.25-45 Hz)…

To sleep and dream: Unraveling narcolepsy.

Friedman JM.

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America 9 sept. 2026

In an extraordinary convergence, Emmanuel Mignot and Masashi Yanagisawa employed two entirely different approaches to establish the pathogenesis of narcolepsy, a devastating sleep disorder associated with overwhelming sleep attacks, cataplexy, episodes with sudden loss of muscle tone, and hallucinations resulting from dreaming while awake. Yanagisawa purified brain ligands for orphan G protein-coupled receptors identifying a peptide, orexin, and then used reverse genetics to show that a knockout of the neuropeptide caused narcolepsy in mice.

A Cross-Sectional Study of Short-Video Viewing and Young Adult Health: Dose-Response Relationships with Sleep, Dream Anxiety, Ocular Surface, and Quality of Life.

Wang X, Zeng Y, Liu X, Yang W, Liu Y, Chen X, Wang Y, Lou Y, Shao Y.

Healthcare (Basel, Switzerland) 28 août 2026

Background: Short-video platforms (e.g., Douyin, TikTok) have gained immense popularity among young adults, yet their addictive potential and health consequences remain understudied. Unlike gaming addiction, which has been linked to myopia and mental distress, short-video viewing may pose distinct risks due to its fragmented, high-frequency, and pre-sleep usage patterns. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between short-video viewing and multifaceted health outcomes in Chinese young adults, with a focus on dose-response relationships.

Nightmare disorder and depression: Exploring a neglected clinical association.

Maruani J, Clerici E, Lejoyeux M, Geoffroy PA.

Journal of psychiatric research 14 août 2026

Nightmares are overrepresented in psychiatric disorders and are strongly associated with suicidality, especially in Major Depressive Episode (MDE). This study had two main objectives: (1) to determine an optimal diagnostic cutoff for the Nightmare Severity Index (NSI) to identify Nightmare Disorder (ND), and (2) to compare the clinical profiles of MDE patients with ND (MDE-ND) and without ND (MDE-WND). We hypothesized that MDE-ND represents a more severe depressive subtype. This prospective case-control study was conducted in routine clinical settings.

Roepke S, Schoofs N, Priebe K, Wuelfing F, Meyer K, Gieselmann A, Stieglbauer K, Galve M, Biedermann S, Gallinat J, Schäfer I, Schmahl C, Zähringer J, Roehle R, Sprünken ED, Friede T, Gold SM, Maslahati T, Otte C, Koglin S.

Nature medicine 5 août 2026

Nightmares are a hallmark of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), yet pharmacological treatments remain limited. Here we conducted a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dronabinol (BX-1; Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)) for PTSD-related nightmares. Adults with PTSD and recurrent nightmares were randomly assigned to receive dronabinol (2.5-15 mg) or placebo, once daily before bedtime, for 10 weeks.

Fear in Dreams Predicts Stronger Affect Reactivity in Wakefulness.

Lin E, Grassini S, Railo H, Strid N, Revonsuo A, Sikka P.

Sleep 22 juil. 2026

Sleep plays an important role in affective processing and affect regulation during wakefulness. Dreaming-the subjective experiences occurring during sleep-has been suggested to reflect, or even contribute to, waking affect regulation. However, the role of dream affect in waking affect regulation has rarely been studied directly. Here, we investigated how dream affect relates to waking affect reactivity and regulation at the between-person level.

Clinical Characteristics Associated With Nightmares During Lemborexant Treatment in Psychiatric Patients: A Retrospective Study.

Yasuda K, Kubo H, Tamura S, Takeda R, Ikeda R, Hirano Y.

Journal of clinical psychopharmacology 17 juil. 2026

Background A dual orexin receptor antagonist, lemborexant (LEM) is widely prescribed for the treatment of insomnia, especially among patients with psychiatric disorders. However, LEM-induced nightmares may exacerbate existing psychiatric symptoms and lead to the discontinuation of treatment. Despite its still growing clinical application, few studies have identified risk factors associated with LEM-induced nightmares. The aim of this study was to elucidate the clinical factors associated with LEM-induced nightmares in clinical settings.

The frequency of observer dreams in Parkinson's disease patients and relation with clinical variables.

Bugalho P.

Neurological sciences : official journal of the Italian Neurological Society and of the Italian Society of Clinical Neurophysiology 17 juil. 2026

Introduction Contrary to common believe, some studies have reported the existence of observer dreams, in which the dreamer does not intervene. Parkinson's disease (PD) patients frequently report alterations in dream content, but nothing is known regarding this feature. Our objective was to assess the frequency of observer dreams in PD and correlation with clinical features. Methods Dreams reports were collected from a 15-day diary and classified in non-observer and observer dreams.

COMMENT LA VEILLE EST CONSTRUITE

Une actualisation automatique, avec des garde-fous

Chaque semaine
